SALISBURY, NC – Stephen Jay Boehner, age 71, passed away on Monday, April 12, 2021 at the Rowan Medical Center in Salisbury, North Carolina. He was born on December 25, 1949 in Beloit, KS to Earl and Doris Boehner. He was married on August 25, 1979 to Karen (Rexroat) Kincheloe. She was by his side to the end. He was a graduate of Glen Elder High School and Fort Hays State University. Steve served six years in the Army National Guard.
He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Steve was quite active in his church. The Refuge Church was a very important part of his life. He gave generously to people next door and across the world. Steve would give the coat off his back to help a stranger. He found the good in anyone and could make any single soul feel comfortable.
In 1993 Steve achieved his dream of getting his private pilot’s license and enjoyed flying to SD to watch Brian play football as well as other sporting events and flying for pleasure.
Steve was a farmer in every sense of the word. He grew crops and relationships. He nurtured livestock and his family. Steve was a caretaker. He was a humble, kind man who put others' needs before his own. His heart for his family and faith was known to anyone who met him.
Steve retired in 2007 and moved to North Carolina. His hardworking personality couldn’t let him officially retire. He took on a job at EF Belk and Sons Electric, Mooresville, NC working a full 40 hr week, which he considered part-time. He continued there until he retired a few months before his passing.
He loved Kansas State University sports, Nascar, the Kansas City Chiefs, and Hurricanes hockey.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Karen Boehner, of the home, and his sons: Bryan (Betsy) Kincheloe of Sherills Ford, NC, Brian (Michelle) VanDenHul of Sioux Falls, SD, and Trent (Randi) Boehner of Wichita; eight grandchildren, Baylea Williams, Skyler VanDenHul, Aiden Souza, Conley Souza, Brooklyn VanDenHul, Ethan Boehner, Addison VanDenHul, and Kensley VanDenHyl; two greatgrandchildren; Jaxson Williams and Emma Williams. He is also survived by his brother, Ernie (Norma) Boehner of Kansas City, KS, numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
Preceding him in death are his son, Tyler Boehner; his parents, Doris and Earl Boehner; mother-in-law Nedra Rexroat; and brother-in-law, Kris Cranston.
There will be a celebration of Steve’s life on Saturday, June 19 at 3:00 at the Christian Life Ministry Center, Glen Elder, Ks.
In lieu of flowers, there is a memorial in Steve’s honor to a mission close to Steve’s heart - Northgate Ministry in the Philippines, a home for girls at risk for sex trafficking.
