“VFW Breakfast Egg Specialist”
Bob and the other members of Post 6242 came up with the idea of having a monthly breakfast 25 years ago when the VFW bar closed. Bob has been helping cook eggs every breakfast since, until last fall, when age and health issues stopped his ability to continue to help.
It was also voted on by the membership of the post to dedicate the large Griddle he cooked them on with a placard on the vent hood, that will read " Bob Petterson memorial griddle" with his years of service to the post that started in 1954, upon his return from the Korean war as a United States Marine.
Vice Commander Adam File came up with the idea and Liz Fixsen designed several versions of the gift for the post to vote on.
Bob was the Post Commander two times, a District Commander, and competed nationally in the color guard competition many years ago, winning second place, by a slim margin. Bob also won the Wayne E Richards award many years ago, which recognizes dedicated and Meritorious service to the Kansas VFW.
Bob is currently recovering from a surgery at the Beloit hospital. The members of post 6242 wish him a speedy recovery and hope to see him back at the post soon.
The VFW Hall, Post 6242, 102 E. South Street, in Beloit will host a free Customer Appreciation breakfast from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 3, 2026 during the VFW Day of Service of giving back to the community. The menu includes Pancakes and Waffles, Sausage Patties, Ham, Scrambled Eggs, Hash Browns, Biscuits & Gravy, Fresh Fruit, Coffee and Juice. Free and no donations will be accepted.
