DECATUR, GA. – Martha McMahan Nielson, 103, passed away peacefully at Arbor Terrace of Decatur, GA., on February 20, 2019. Martha was born on August 21, 1915 and raised in Beloit, Kansas, where as a young girl she was active in the 4-H Organization. She attended Emporia State University and Kansas State University while majoring in Home Economics. In 1937, she married Chester D. (Chet) Nielson, now deceased. Their lives together took them to many interesting places as Chet served in the military for 30 years. Upon his retirement, they continued to travel and spend time in Waynesville, NC; Orlando, FL and Huntsville, AL. Martha was active in her community church wherever she lived and made lasting friendships she cherished until her death. She was a devoted wife and mother.
Martha will be lovingly remembered by her three sons, David Nielson and wife Aileen of Huntsville, AL; Chip Nielson and wife Terry of Tega Cay, SC; Stephen Nielson and wife Carla of Orlando, FL; and daughter Nancy Ruffin and husband Hank of Wake Forest, NC. She was also blessed with 7 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
A graveside service will be held at Glen Haven Memorial Park in Winter Park, FL on March 2, 2019 at 11:00AM.
