LITTLETON, Colo. – Marian Cecilia Combs (Konzem), 92, of Littleton, Colo., died April 22 from COVID-19 while residing in an assisted living center where she had been suffering from advanced Alzheimer’s disease for the past several years.
Marian was born in Tipton, the youngest of twelve children of Frank Konzem and Anna
Arnoldy. Brothers Lawrence, Leo, Raymond, Leander (Lee), Hubert (Hub) and Charles, and sisters Cecelia (Jasper), Eleanor (Engelbert), Veronica (Yenni), Agnes (Eilert) and husband Spencer all preceded her in death.
She is survived by a son, Donald, of Denver and Detroit, and a sister Rosella (Rosie) Eilert of Beloit, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Sadly, she outlived most of the numerous friends she was lucky to have over the years. The common threads mentioned in the many condolences received were her smile, wry sense of humor, and easy laugh.
Marian began working for Crum & Forster Insurance in 1967 in various capacities until her retirement. Following her “official retirement”, she still maintained a very active life. She worked part-time as a greeter at Kmart for several years where she thoroughly enjoyed seeing her friends who came in to shop. For several years, she would visit her son Don’s office twice a week to help with filing, banking and mailing chores. Her favorite task was walking her “granddog” Madam around the block. They made quite the pair greeting passersby they met on their excursions.
She was also a familiar face at the Senior Center where she got involved in needlepoint. During football season, she was never seen without her favorite Broncos shirt as she anxiously watched the games.
Picture puzzles and crossword books were always fixtures in her home. She also did some volunteer work and was a frequent face at several charity fundraisers. She loved the natural beauty of flowers and enjoyed tending the flowerbed in front of her condo while enjoying frequent chats with her neighbors. She is greatly missed by all whose lives she touched over the years.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Colorado Alzheimer’s Association or the charity of your choice in honor of Marian.
