Posted

BELOIT – Jocile Ann Mastin was born November 27, 1938 in Beloit, KS to Marvin and Sophia Koepsel Mastin and departed this life on October 11, 2026 at the age of 87. She attended the Beloit schools and graduated with the class of 1956. After graduation, she continued her education at Kansas University in Lawrence, KS where she was a member of the Alpha Phi Sorority. After two years, she returned to Beloit where she married her high school sweetheart, Darrell Ernest Fulhage June 8, 1958. To this union, three children were born, Shari Deen, Scott Alan and Melissa Jo. Together they made their home on the farm ten miles southwest of Beloit for sixty-eight years.

Jocile taught school in Cawker City and Beloit for two years before becoming pregnant with her first child, at which time she was asked to resign. After the birth of her daughter, Jocile returned to teaching and spent several years at Round Top Country School, then she became a full-time farm wife, mother, cook, cleaner, truck driver, combine driver, gardener, mower and filled many other roles on the farm where needed. She was also a master mender of holes and rips. She was a hard worker and only sat down once a day to watch the soap opera “ All My Children.” One of her favorite past times was doing crafts and making things for her family. She made hand-stitched, sequined Christmas stockings for each of her children and their spouses and for her ten grandchildren which are still displayed during the Christmas season.

Being an accomplished pianist was one of Jocile’s greatest joys. She played piano for Hopewell Presbyterian country church and the First Presbyterian Church in Beloit for many, many years. Throughout the years, she accompanied many soloists and choral groups for programs and competitions, and she especially enjoyed playing piano duets with good friends Earlene Tice, Donna Munsey, and her daughter Shari, as well as friends from Allegro Music Club. Playing for the Holiday Tour of Homes with Earlene was something she thoroughly enjoyed for many holiday seasons. Besides Music Club, she was an active member of PEO Chapter K, Ad Volens, Delphian Club, Tuesday morning Bowling Club and Bridge Club.

Attending all her children’s and grandchildren’s activities and events was a top priority for her. She never missed a concert, sporting or school event and was always cheering them on. She even traveled five hours several times a year to watch her grandchildren in Coffeyville, KS. She taught all the grandchildren how to play the card game Kings in the Corner, and she loved playing Words with Friends.

Jocile was an adventurous person and was lucky to travel overseas on several occasions. One of her favorite places to visit was Australia where their AFS daughter, Louise and her family lived. In later years, she also got to visit her granddaughter, Darcy, who moved to Australia. She traveled to Europe and Hawaii, and loved going to Colorado with her bridge club for many years.

Over the past several years, dementia robbed her of memories so gradually yet so quickly of her family, friends and all the things that made her who she was. For her to be here, but not, was such a cruel twist of fate. Now she is free from her suffering and rejoicing in Heaven enjoying the life she once loved and the family and friends she cherished so much. We are all endlessly grateful to have been gifted her as our wife, mother and grandma.

Preceding her in death, were her parents Marvin and Sophia Mastin, brother Frank Mastin, sister-in-law Lu Mastin, sister-in-law Dawn Mastin and son-in-law Todd Hurlbutt. Left to mourn her passing and celebrate her life is husband Darrell Fulhage of the home, brother Ron Mastin Woodstock, GA, daughter Shari Hurlbutt Coffeyville, KS, son Scott Fulhage (Cyndy) Beloit, daughter, Melissa Brown (Jerry) Beloit, AFS daughter Louise Storey (Rob) Perth, Western Australia, ten grandchildren, Camille Eisenbart, Darrell John Fulhage, Darcy Simpson, Dustin Hurlbutt, Cody Hurlbutt, Madeline Short, Kennedy Peroo, Karson Brown, Mylie Brown and Blaykly Brown, three bonus grandchildren, Ellen Potter, Georgia Keron and Callum Storey and thirteen great grandchildren.
