Posted

BELOIT – Gary Pohlman 83, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2026. Surrounded by his children following a short illness. He was born June 30 1943, in Clifton, Kansas to Ferd and Opal Pohlman.

Gary grew up in Clifton and graduated from Clifton High school. Baseball was a big part of his life from an early age. Although he developed rheumatic fever at just 6 years old and missed much of first grade, he recovered and went on to become a good athlete. His love of baseball continued throughout his life.

After high school, Gary enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in Korea, a chapter of his life of which he was especially proud. During his time in the Army, he also learned to play the electric guitar, beginning a lifelong love of music. Music was always a part of Gary's life and of his memories of growing up, and there was often music playing wherever he was.

On July 16, 1966, Gary married the love of his life, Judy Lundeen. And with this union they had 4 children. Aaron , Corey, Jolinda, and Kriston. They were blessed with 59 years of marriage until Judy's passing in March of 2025. Their Marriage was filled with family, hard work, laughter and lifetime of memories

Gary and Judy spent most of their married life together in Beloit. Gary worked at Boogarts Grocery before beginning a long career with the Mitchell county Highway Department. He worked as a truck driver with the road crew and retired after 32 years of service.

Gary was truly a jack of all trades and was the kind of person who could figure out how to make just about anything. He was especially talented at wood working and created large scale dollhouses, clocks and many other specialty items. If someone asked him to make something , he was often up for the challenge.

He was a lifelong Kansas City Royals fan, following them through the wins and the losses, and he also loved watching the Kansas City Chiefs. Baseball, football, music and woodworking were some of the things he enjoyed the most.

Beneath his quiet nature was a loving husband, father and grandfather who believed in taking care of his family through hard work.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Ferd and Opal; his older brother, Charlie; his beloved wife, Judy; and his son-in-law, Jed Black.

He is survived by his children, Aaron (Cathy) of Hutchinson, Kansas, Corey (Samantha) of Wichita, Kansas, Jolinda of Beloit, Kansas, and Kriston (Missy) of Point, Texas; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Mike (Joyce) Lundeen of Fort Scott, Kansas; and sister-in-law, Jolen Pohlman of Salina, Kansas.
