CAWKER CITY – Eugene Paul Jasper passed away peacefully April 5, 2022, four days before his 81st birthday at Westover Long-Term Care Community in Hamilton, Ohio.
He was the sixth of eight children born to Leo Nicholas Jasper and Cecelia Elizabeth Konzem Jasper in Cawker City, Kansas. Referred to as Gene, Uncle Blu, or simply Jasper, he never married, but his funloving spirit and endless stories will live on in the hearts of the many who loved him.
Gene served three years in the U.S. Army Signal Corps in Fort Leonardwood, MO and Fort Lewis, WA. Trained as an electrical engineer, he spent most of his career in Denver, CO and Cincinnati, OH where he lived the past 35 years. While in Cincinnati, Gene used his problem-solving skills, creativity and love for working with his hands to buy, renovate and rent residential real estate. His compassion for the socially and financially marginalized was reflected in how he treated his rental tenants and all with whom he came in contact.
Gene’ s sense of adventure earned him the title of “ Fun Uncle” with hi 19 nieces and nephews as well as their children. He was also known for his story telling and tendency to embellish on every adventure.
Survivors include sisters Dorothy Pasqua, Greeley, CO, Marilyn O’ Connor Hunt (John Hunt), Salina, KS, and Loretta Jasper, csj, Abilene, KS; brother Charles Jasper (Pat Friesen), Leawood, KS; and sister-in-law Cleta Jasper (Herman), Colorado Springs, CO; as well as three generations of nieces and nephews and a multitude of cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Marcena McChesney-Brummer-Wall and Leona Flavin; brother Herman Jasper; brothers-in-law Paul McChesney, Joseph Brummer, Roger Wall, Harold Flavin, Joseph Pasqua and Patrick O’ Connor; as well as grandniece Holly Johnson-Pasqua and grandnephew Bryan Petrie.
Interment will be Saturday, June 11, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter and Paul Catholic cemetery in Cawker City, KS. Anyone who knew Gene is welcome.
