CARBONDALE, COLO. – Caleb Richard Edelman was born June 23, 1978. He peacefully fell asleep in death at home, surrounded by family on March 11, 2021, after a brief battle with leukemia. He was 42 years old.
Caleb was born in Beloit, Kansas, one of four children to Richard and Shirley Edelman. His childhood was spent enjoying the life a small town offers with many friends and family. Childhood was spent riding bikes, building forts, and swimming at the public pool til the sun went down. He learned the value of hard work with his dad in the family janitorial business, delivering Salina Journal newspapers with his siblings, and mowing lawns. He graduated from Beloit High School in 1996, and NCK Votech in 1996.
Shortly after, with a sense of adventure, and his eye on a pretty girl, he set sail for Colorado. She made his world when she said yes, and on June 20, 1998, Caleb and Monica were united in marriage. Together they worked hard, traveled extensively, and made a successful life in Colorado. He thrived on the challenge of learning new trades and building businesses, as well as challenging himself physically in international and domestic marathons and canoe races.
More than his love for Monica, his family, and his love of adventure, Caleb loved our creator, Jehovah. At the age of 16 he was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He thrived in sharing with others the promises found in the Bible that God will bring equality, peace, and health to the earth again in the future, as well as our cherished friends and family that have died in the past. This hope gave Caleb true comfort and hope during his final days. In line with his generous spirit and love of people, the last number of years he switched his focus to sharing that hope with others full time. He and Monica volunteered together on numerous construction projects in Aurora, CO and Warwick, NY, and assisted many that had been impacted by hurricanes in the Bahamas and St. Thomas island. He also cherished the privilege he had of sharing in the Harbor Ministry together with Monica. They shared their faith and encouraged countless people from all over the world to come to a relationship with our creator. In doing this he experienced deep satisfaction, many lasting friendships, and a glimpse of true Christian unity in action.
He will be dearly missed by his wife, his siblings, his countless extended family and friends, his congregation in St. Thomas, and our creator Jehovah until the time he is awakened from his sleep.
Caleb was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Edelman and Shirley Edelman. He is survived by his wife, Monica of Carbondale, Colorado; his sisters, Alethia (Allen) Larsen of Hood River, Oregon; Rachel (Joshua) Webb of Beloit, Kansas; brother, Craig (Lacey) Edelman of Beaverton, Oregon; nephews and nieces Jacob and Levi Larsen; Grace Webb, and Phoebe Edelman; and many dear aunts, uncles, cousins, loving in-laws, and beautiful friends.
