SALINA – Beverly June (Simmelink) Remus, the daughter of George and Anna (Kulken) Simmelink, was born north of Downs on April 9, 1930. She peacefully passed away on April 18, 2020 at the Salina Regional Hospital, Salina, at the age of 90.
Beverly attended Green Valley School and graduated from Downs High School in 1948. Beverly worked as a nurse’s aide for the hospital in Beloit and later was employed as a telephone operator at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Downs.
On June 14, 1949, Beverly was united in marriage to Max D. Remus at the Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Cawker City. To this union, 5 children were born: Pamela Dee, Charles William III, Perry Steven, Bradley George and Kelsey Max. The couple resided on a farm south of Cawker City until 1967 when they moved to a farm near Osborne. It was here that the couple developed a very reputable Clydesdale farm named Solomon’s Clydesdales. They spent quality time together traveling to many states to show and sell their prize-winning Clydesdales. In 1997, they retired back to Cawker City. Max and Beverly celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in June 1999. Max passed away on October 20, 1999.
Beverly lived life to the fullest and was a loving servant and devoted member of the Saint Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Cawker City. She was a faithful member of the Ladies Guild and proud to be a Red Hat Lady. Family was Beverly’s main passion and she loved to visit and call her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren often. Her funloving personality brought many laughs and crazy presents that her family will cherish forever. Beverly had a love for flowers and friends. She would call upon her friends often and spent many hours giving to others. Her ultimate love was perhaps her dog, Chica. Chica and Beverly shared a special bond that tied the two of them together forever.
Beverly is preceded in death by her parents, husband Max, son Bradley, daughter-inlaw Twyla (Brummer) Remus, and grandson Kyle.
Left to celebrate her life are her children Dee Dee Remus, Scottsdale, AZ; C.W., Glen Elder; Perry (Linda) Remus, Downs; Kelsey (companion, Kathy McCart), Osborne; 8 grandchildren: Sheldon (Michelle) Remus, Cawker City; Creighton (Shauna) Remus, Glen Elder; Dalton (KC) Remus, Downs; Nolan (Bethany) Remus, Cawker City; Morgan (Jacque) Remus, Billings, MT; Gina (Doug) Norman, Lenexa; Jared (Chelsi) Remus, Downs; Misty (Jason) Schoenberger, Russell. Her beloved greatgrandchildren; Bey Lee and Lauren Brummet, Peyton and Hudson Remus, Reece, Ryker and Rylee Remus, Ace and Vale Remus, Hagen, Grant and Charlotte Remus, Joanna and Alaina Norman, Jaycee and Austen Remus, Pierce, Ava, and Kimber Schoenberger. Beverly is also survived by her sister Betty Schoen of Downs and a host of extended family and friends.
Family only services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Apr. 24 at St. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Cawker City. Visitations will be from 4-8, Thursday, April 23 at Clark F.H. Due to current gathering restrictions, no more than 10 people will be allowed at any one time. Memorials in Beverly’s honor may be given to Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery, St. Theresa’s Parish Hall, or church masses may be given in her honor.
