Beloit Trojan track earn top two team wins / Johnson breaks shot and discus records

BELOIT – The Beloit Trojan track teams traveled to Russell for the annual Russell Relays on Friday, May 4.  This is a very competitive meet with the field made up Beloit, Hoisington, Minneapolis, Phillipsburg, Russell, Scott City, Salina-Sacred Heart, Larned, and TMP.

The Trojan boys brought home a total of 15 medals (3 gold, 9 silver, 3 bronze) and won the meet with 118 points.  Scott Community was second with 114 points and Phillipsburg was third with 87 points.

Gold medal winners for Beloit were Vincent Palen in the 110m high hurdles in 15.28, Zach Meier in the 300m hurdles in 40.71, and Colin Chandler in the shot put at 48’6”. 

Silver medal winners were Blaine Burks in the 800m run in 2:04.48, the 4X400m relay team of Zach Meier, Paxton Harris, Hudson Gray, and Blaine Burks in 3:31.86, Vincent Palen in the high jump at 5’10”, Camden Harris in the pole vault at 13’0”, Blayne Harris in the triple jump at 42’6”, and Colin Chandler in the discus at 136’10”. 

Bronze medal winners were Zach Meier in the 110m high hurdles in 15.57, Vincent Palen in the 300m hurdles in 43.41, and Blaine Burks in the discus at 136’1”. 

The Lady Trojans competed very well, bringing home a total of  medals ( gold,  silver,  bronze) and finished second with 108 points.  Hays-TMP won the meet with 123 points and Scott Community was third with 82.5 points.  

Sydney Johnson broke two meet records and placed first in the shot at 44’5” and discus at 146’5”.  Sydney Barrett won the javelin at 118’1”.

The silver medal winners were Hannah Burk in the 1600m run in 5:31.44, the 4X800m relay team of Hayley Burks, Kalista Hubert, Khylie Mihm, and Hannah Burks in 10:25.78, Blaise Spangler in the pole vault at 10’0”, and Sydney Barrett in the shot put at 36’2.75”.

Bronze medal winners were Hayley Burks in the 3200m run in 12:42.74, Khylie Mihm in the 300m hurdles in 17.12, Caleigh Hewitt in the pole vault at 9’6”, and Sage Prochaska in the discus at 101’9” and the javelin at 103’10”.

The next action for the Trojan track teams is the NCAA league meet hosted by Southeast of Saline at Salina Stadium on Friday, May 11.  Field events will start at 3:30pm, running preliminaries at 5:15pm (if necessary), and running finals will begin at 6:15pm.
